DISCOVER ACTIVE 2 LEARN

Childrens Fundamental Movement specialists

ABOUT US

Active 2 Learn have developed a resource called 'Hop, Skip & Jump' to help secure genuine physical literacy for young children. The programme sets a new standard for early year’s movement education and provides both movement ideas and diagnostic support for teachers, coaches, parents, and others who want to support the development of fundamental movement skills in children aged 3–6 years in a fun and purposeful way.

WHAT OUR HOP, SKIP & JUMP PROGRAMME DOES

Between the ages of three and six children develop fundamental movement skills which are the building blocks that enable them to progress and develop a full range of skills. For example, by six years of age, a normally developing child will be able to run, jump, hop, skip, climb, throw, catch, kick, strike, manipulate, write and draw. This ability to learn movement competence creates the essential nerve cell networks which are the very essence of the learning process.

In the design of the programme we have worked to create a comprehensive set of teaching resources to inspire teachers and nursery practitioners. The aim is simply to help more early years children acquire sound fundamental movement skills which will help them in their KS2 years and throughout adolescence.

Key areas of development

Through the on-going observation and assessment the programme will provide teachers the opportunity to identify those children who need further support, those who have achieved the learning intention and those who may be above average. This information will support future planning to ensure that children are accessing appropriate teaching and learning.

MISSION STATEMENT

In designing this programme we have aspired to make sure Every Child Matters. We hope you will be able to use the programme to inspire and support young children to develop a wide range of functional, manipulative and aesthetic movement skills that will benefit them throughout life.

WHAT DO PROFESSIONALS THINK TO THE PROGRAMME?

Thank you to Miss Clarkson EYFS Lead from Benfieldside Primary school for sharing her thoughts. We have been delivering the programme for over 12 months in her school and she says benefits are clear to see.
